যখন কোনো শব্দ বা শব্দগুচ্ছ বাক্যের Subject সম্পর্কে কিছু বলে বা সাবজেক্টের ভিন্ন পরিচয় দেয়, তখন তাকে Subject Complement বলা হয়। এটি মূলত 'Subject = Complement' এই সমীকরণ মেনে চলে। যেমন: "Armin is a teacher." এখানে 'teacher' হলো সাবজেক্ট 'Armin'-এর একটি পরিচয়। আবার "The sky is blue." বাক্যে 'blue' শব্দটি সাবজেক্টের অবস্থা বা গুণ বর্ণনা করছে। এই ধরণের ক্লজে সাধারণত বিভক্তিহীন Noun বা Adjective ব্যবহৃত হয়।
২. Object Complement
যখন কোনো শব্দ বাক্যের Direct Object সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য দেয় বা অবজেক্টের পূর্ণতা দান করে, তখন তাকে Object Complement বলে। এটি সাধারণত ট্রানজিটিভ ভার্বের পরে অবজেক্টের ঠিক পাশে বসে। যেমন: "They elected him captain." এই বাক্যে 'him' হলো অবজেক্ট এবং 'captain' শব্দটি সেই অবজেক্টের পদবী বা পরিচয় বোঝাচ্ছে। একইভাবে, "The news made her sad." বাক্যে 'sad' শব্দটি অবজেক্ট 'her'-এর মানসিক অবস্থা প্রকাশ করছে। এখানে 'Object = Complement' সম্পর্কটি বিদ্যমান।
৩. Object এবং Complement-এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য
Object এবং Complement চেনার সবচেয়ে সহজ উপায় হলো সাবজেক্টের সাথে তুলনা করা। যদি ভার্বের পরের অংশটি সাবজেক্টের সাথে একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু হয়, তবে সেটি Complement। যেমন: "He is a doctor" (He = Doctor, তাই এটি Complement)। কিন্তু যদি ভার্বের পরের অংশটি সাবজেক্ট থেকে ভিন্ন কিছু হয় এবং সাবজেক্ট তার ওপর কোনো কাজ করে, তবে সেটি Object। যেমন: "He plays football" (He $\neq$ Football, তাই এটি Object)।
